Botox / Dysport / Jeuveau

Inevitably, every gal or guy will have a moment like this: You’re working on a new eyeliner trick, or you catch yourself in different lighting or your car mirror.

You look closer. Are those the faint lines of crow’s feet? Have the “11s” officially taken up residence between your brows? You might shrug it off. After all, wrinkles give us character. But if you’re bothered by a permanent frown or anything else, it’s nice to know you’ve got options.

Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau are some of them. And when done right, the results look glorious.

Every time we move the muscles of the face, the skin sustains micro-injuries. Over time we lose our collagen and elastin and the ability to repair the breakdown at the same rate. Botox, Dysport, and Jeaveau relax the muscle and decrease or stop the muscle from moving and causing micro-injuries to the skin. Immobilizing the muscle allows the body to repair and replenish itself at its own rate.

What is Botox?

In the medical field, Botox is used to treat various conditions, including muscle spasms, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), chronic migraines, overactive bladder, and certain eye disorders. It works by temporarily paralyzing or relaxing the targeted muscles or nerves, which can relieve the symptoms of these conditions.
In the cosmetic industry, Botox is widely known for its use in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. By injecting small amounts of Botox into specific facial muscles, it can temporarily relax those muscles, leading to a smoother and more youthful appearance.

It’s essential to note that Botox injections should only be administered by qualified medical professionals as the procedure involves using a potent neurotoxin. Botox treatments are generally safe and well-tolerated when performed correctly and in the appropriate doses. However, potential side effects and complications can occur if not administered properly. It is always best to consult a trained healthcare professional to determine if Botox is an appropriate treatment for your specific condition or cosmetic goals.

What is Dysport?

Dysport is a prescription medication used in medical and cosmetic applications.

In medical applications, Dysport is primarily used for treating certain muscular conditions, such as cervical dystonia (a neurological disorder that causes neck and shoulder muscle contractions), spasticity in muscles, and certain eye muscle disorders like strabismus (crossed eyes) or blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking).

In cosmetic applications, Dysport is used to temporarily reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines, particularly on the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), and around the eyes (crow’s feet). When injected into specific facial muscles, Dysport temporarily relaxes them, leading to smoother skin and a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles.

Like other botulinum toxin type A products, Dysport should only be administered by qualified healthcare professionals due to its potency and potential risks. As with any medical treatment, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider to determine if Dysport is suitable for your specific condition or cosmetic goals.

What is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is a prescription medication used for cosmetic purposes. It is a neuromodulator, which means it temporarily relaxes the muscles in the face to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Jeuveau is similar to Botox and Dysport, as it contains botulinum toxin type A, but it is produced by a different company and explicitly marketed for cosmetic use. Like other botulinum toxin-based treatments, Jeuveau blocks the nerve signals to the muscles, leading to temporary muscle paralysis in the treated area.

Common areas where Jeuveau is used include the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes. The effects of Jeuveau typically last for several months, and repeat treatments are required to maintain the desired results.
